„Do you speak English?“ Mitte und Prenzlauer Berg sind ein kosmopolitisches Pflaster, Stadtteile, in denen Professionals oder Studierende aus der ganze Welt leben. Englisch ist oft die zweite Alltagssprache im Kiez, in der Firma, im Café oder Club. Dieser Tatsache wollen jetzt auch die Kirchen in Berlin-Mitte mit einem zweisprachigen Angebot Rechnung tragen. „Still Sunday“ – unter diesem Namen laden die Evangelische Kirchengemeinde Sophien und die Evangelische Kulturwerkstatt Berlin-Mitte jetzt zu internationalen Abend-Gottesdiensten in der Zionskirche ein. Die traditionsreiche Zionskirche im Kastanienkiez, in der schon der Theologe Dietrich Bonhoeffer oder die oppositionelle Umweltbibliothek zu DDR-Zeiten aktiv waren, will weiterhin ein Ort für die Menschen um sie herum sein. Jeder sechste in der Gegend stammt nicht aus Deutschland. Still Sundays soll ein Raum der Begegnung für Menschen aus unterschiedlichen Kulturen sein – und ein Raum der Besinnung auf Gott. Der Name drückt aus, dass Sonntag ein Ruhetag ist und der Gottesdienst ein Raum, in dem man Kräfte sammeln und sich auf die neue Woche ausrichten kann.      


Do you speak English?  Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg are cosmopolitan places, districts where professionals and students live from all over the world.  English is often the second everyday language in the neighborhood, at the office and in cafés and clubs.  The churches in Berlin-Mitte have taken this reality into account and offer a bilingual event.  “Still Sunday” – under this banner the Evangelische Kirchengemeinde Sophien und the Evangelische Kulturwerkstatt Berlin- Mitte invite you to a monthly international evening church service in the Zionskirche. The Zionskirche has a rich tradition in the Kastanien neighborhood, was home to the theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer and an active voice of opposition during the DDR times through the “Umweltbibliothek”.  Zion wishes to remain a place for the people that live nearby.  One out of six people in the area are not originally from Germany.  Still Sundays provides a place for people from various cultures to come together – und a place to focus on God.  The name expresses the fact that Sunday is a day of rest and that a church service is a place where you can gather strength and gain perspective for the coming week.
